Maker Space

MAKERSPACE: A space where students can make things!

These are some photos of our classroom makerspace:
This is our supply area.  This year we have learned a lot about conserving resources in our Planet Protectors PBL project, so we save as many recyclable/reusable materials as we can in our makerspace.

This is the workspace.  Under the table, there are bins with scrap paper, cardboard, hangers, and other larger supplies.  Reduce, reuse, recycle!

This is our in-progress area. Students can work in the makerspace during enrichment time on Fridays, in the mornings when they arrive, or if they have completed all other assignments.  If they're working on a project, they can leave it here and finish it at the next appropriate time.

These are the expectations that the students decided on for our makerspace.  Pick an idea, grab materials, make it, finish and be proud, and clean up.  It's simple, yet full of possibility to be creative!

Plussing Challenge Ideas
Pixar uses the term "plussing" to take an object and find ways to make it better.  Can you make these everyday objects even better?
  • Doorstop
  • Lunchbox
  • Ruler
  • Shoelaces
  • Paintbrush
  • ...what else??

It has a surprise inside, too!
She made a "Halloween candy bucket" complete with lid to "keep the candy safe."
